"For I rejoiced greatly when
brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in
the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in
truth."
—3 John 1:3,4
"I thank my God, making
mention of you always in my prayers, hearing of your love and faith which you
have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints...for we have great joy
and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been
refreshed by you, brother."
—Philemon 1:4,5,7
Both apostles, John and Paul,
wrote letters of commendation to inspire and motivate their brethren in the
Lord. The Apostle John wrote to his beloved friend Gaius commending him
for his hospitality and support to the saints who had visited his church. The
letter encouraged Gaius to continue supporting and ministering to his fellow
workers in Christ.
The Apostle Paul wrote to Philemon
commending him for his brotherly love and forgiving spirit. Being confident in
Philemon's love, he writes on behalf of Onesimus, his estranged slave.
One of the greatest ways to
encourage others is to commend them for their achievements and
accomplishments. Letters of Commendation
are written specifically for that purpose. The recipients are limitless. There are many individuals and organizations
within the community giving tirelessly for the betterment of society. As Christians, we should seek to commend
others for their contributions, achievements and accomplishments in life, both
naturally and spiritually. If they are not Christian, then we have an
opportunity to share the love of Christ with them and let them know that it is
because of His grace and mercy that they are blessed to make a difference in
society.
Letters of Commendation (Congratulations) include the following life events:
- Births
- Graduations (High School/Post Graduates)
- Community Service
- Entreprenuerial Achievements
